Introduction
Welcome to the Park Avenue Church Summer Study! We are so glad that you are choosing to participate with us!
The Summer Study lasts for 8-weeks. A new devotion will be released each Sunday that can be done either on your own, with your family, friends, coworkers, etc. You can find the devotions on the Church Center App, on this website, and in a weekly email. A few hard copies will be printed and placed in the Narthex and back of the Fellowship Hall as well.
Since the study is eight weeks, you will have more weeks in the summer than there are lessons. This is intentional so that if you miss a week you aren’t tempted to give up because you got behind. Just pick up where you left off! Our goal for this summer study is to help us all grow closer to Christ while growing in spiritual maturity.
The series will be based around 2 Peter 1:5-8 (NIV) which says:
“For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
In this passage, Peter is giving us a “roadmap” for our journey towards spiritual maturity. Each attribute he lists is like a link in a chain; they build upon one another. You cannot hope to achieve one without achieving the one that comes before it. So, we will work through each attribute this summer, taking an in-depth look in order to better understand it. We encourage these attributes to be a topic of discussion throughout the week so that it resonates within you and fosters Christ-center conversation within your home.
Each week’s study has been written by a different member of the Park Avenue Staff. You will notice that there is an email address linked to their name. Feel free to reach out to that staff member with any questions or comments regarding the study for that week. May God bless you during this time!
A note for parents of young children:
This devotion is designed so that everyone can grow deeper in their faith. Some of the concepts that will be presented may be a bit advanced for the youngest children. Therefore, it may be beneficial for parents to do the devotion as a couple ahead of time, and then break down the concepts in simpler terms for their kids.
